"Fine, thanks! And how are you?"

I know that when people say "How are you?" they are expecting you to say "Fine, thanks!" as a matter of conversational reciprocity. But I am feeling like I am about to spontaneously combust! The demands of my job are greater than ever before, and I am being sent in every frickin' direction before be told to set off in yet another direction!
