Strippers and their Equipment

Does anyone happen to know how those metal poles somehow became such an integral part of a stripper's routine? Did some innovative stripper show up for her job interview and say to Vito The Club Manager, "You'll have to install a metal pole, in order to accomodate my work environment"???

Are there certain poles that strippers prefer, over others? When a strip club is remodeled, do the girls provide input to Vito, such as "Oooohh, please get the reduced-friction model made by Fellowes . . . it cuts down on pole burns AND carpal tunnel sydrome! You don't want us to file a workman's comp claim, after all?!"

Likewise, why don't male strippers have poles? (Or do they? I don't recall ever seeing one). I don't think it would do anything for me to see a guy hanging upside down from one, though. Of course, I don't get that much out of the whole male stripping experience anyway.

Thoughts?

It's like a fireman's pole. Brass is the preferred metal, I believe, I was TOLD by someone who ACTUALLY went to one of THOSE places. Hey, you forgot about the plastic squares in the floor with the lights blinking to the music as well as the ever popular rotating (what else!!)mirror ball hanging from the ceiling and the really hookey looking KELLERED (Pghese spoken 'ere, yinz know) lights shining on the "performers". AH, those were the days, I mean, SOMEONE TOLD ME those were the days!!
